Check an AI Answer Before You Send It
Use a short human check to catch invented facts, changed numbers, missing sources, and promises you did not make.
Use fictional placeholders while practising. Follow your workplace's approved tools and data rules.
Do not ask the AI to certify its own answer
Asking “Are you sure?” may produce a more confident answer without producing better evidence. Treat the output as a draft and return to the source material yourself.
The five-minute check
- Facts: Which statements came from your notes, and which appeared only in the AI output?
- Numbers: Compare every date, amount, quantity, unit, and deadline with the original.
- Decisions: Did a suggestion become an approval, assignment, or final answer?
- Promises: Did the wording add a refund, guarantee, response time, or outcome?
- Sources: For rules, contracts, law, money, health, or safety, return to the current official source and the responsible person.
A safer review prompt
Compare the original notes and the AI draft below. Make three lists: “supported by the notes,” “meaning changed,” and “not in the notes.” Do not decide which version is correct. Point me back to the exact item a person must verify.
Do not paste the original source if it contains personal, confidential, contractual, financial, medical, security, or unreleased information that is not approved for the tool. Use fictional practice text or review it outside the AI.
One final question
Before sending, ask yourself: “If this line is wrong, who could be affected?” The higher the impact, the more important it is to pause, use an approved channel, and bring in the person responsible.
